The word for God resting on the 7th day of creation is the same word Jesus uttered on the cross when he said, "It is finished." We rest in his finished work ... and learn to say, "Thank you!" It is the cessation of striving to be good enough and do enough to please God and learn to rest in what He's done. An interesting insight is when God forbad the priest to wear anything but linen when ministering in the most holy place of the tabernacle. He was not to sweat in the presence of God. Why? Because sweat is the signature of man's rebellion against God and his provision. The church has much to learn about sabbath.
